May 20, 2006 We went on a dragon hunt today. Looking for "the nice Eastern Dragons, not the mean Western Dragons" as J put it. So off we went to a couple local stores with Chinese imports and J hunted around looking for dragons. She had fun. As she was getting ready for bed she said she wanted to hunt for fairies too. I suggested we go to the Asian gardens and hunt for both fairies and real eastern dragons some day soon. Should be fun! The carpet looks good. Still have a lot of unpacking to do but the place is coming together. Tomorrow we're off to the beach!
May 13, 2006 Yesterday J locked us both out of the house. We were on the patio, I was getting paint out of the storage closet and J decided to close both patio doors. There is a very low-tech security system on the doors... namely a shower curtain rod that won't budge! So, I had to hop over the railing, run through the landscaping, run to the garage, find the extra key, and get into the house while Miss J sat on the patio. Thankfully the second lock wasn't on the front door! Today we painted J's room... tonight we are camping out in the living room! We also cleared out all our junk so the new carpet can get installed on Monday.
May 11, 2006  Yesterday was Family Day! Very hard to believe it was two years ago when we first met and became a family. We celebrated with our set traditions: 1. a new charm for her bracelet- this year it was an ice cream cone. [Last year it was a starfish and her starter charms were a ladybug, a palm tree, and a heart frame charm for her photo.] 2. a small gift that I picked out for her when we were in China. This year she got a toy drum with handpainted flowers on it. 3. a cupcake in an ice cream cone. Why this dessert? Because our family day is also the birthday of my two best childhood buddies. and one of them always brought this treat to school on her birthday. And the other one always begged her mother to make this treat... with no success. On Tuesday, J went to her very first dance class. Actually a combo pre-ballet AND gymnastics class. She LOVED it... such a huge smile on her face the whole time. She learned first and second position of the feet and several other
April 29, 2006   Wiggles! Wiggles! Wiggles!   J and I went to the Wiggles concert yesterday and it was FUUUUUN! We arrived early and had fun walking around the campus and checking out the arena. We brought flowers for Dorothy the Dinosaur and when she entered the stage, J jumped up and grabbed the flowers, all ready to hand them to her! Very cute. J's favorite part was the song "Fruit Salad, Yummy, Yummy" and they came out with HUGE fruit... Captain Feathersword kept tossing his huge banana around the stage, which yielded lots of giggles. Today J and I went to the Wild Animal Park. We rode the merry-go-round many times of course. This is a great one - with all the animals from the park in it and some from the zoo too: pandas, panthers, elephants, lions, eagles, otters, rhino, and a big bird nest that spins around. We saw an American Bald Eagle on the way to the Condor and that thrilled J. We also saw the butterflies and many fluttered to J, I think they liked
April 26, 2006   Today Miss J met Mary Poppins at the library! Mary came into the room and went to J and held her hand as she danced around the room singing. Then the famous nanny asked all the children if they knew what a nanny was - and received blank stares. She then asked if anyone knew what a babysitter was. J said yes, and explained that "we are going on an airplane and when we're in China, we will meet our babysitter who is waiting for us." Mary Poppins was rather surprised that we'd go so far for a babysitter until I explained, "she means her baby SISTER is waiting in China." Big laugh from the audience. After more singing, tasting "medicine with sugar", and storytelling, Mary had special costumes for all the children. J was a wizard with purple cape and pointy hat and fancy wand. They had a parade to "Supercalifragalicious". Very fun. Today I also received J's first-ever School Progress Report Card -- she did exc
April 25, 2006   A new blog! Here is the start of a new blog documenting J's activities. This month, she celebrated her third birthday with a party at the YMCA - gymnastics for 14 friends followed by snack and cupcakes. After the party she picked what she wanted for dinner: a burger! The following week she hunted for eggs and on Easter morning she found her basket in about one minute! It was under her desk. The bunny brought a basket with two puzzels, two movies, socks with ducks on them, a small Angelina Ballerina doll, and hair barettes. On April 21, J said a sad goodbye to her teacher, Mrs. McGuiniss, who is moving to D.C.
